On the way home from Milwaukee, I found a mystery of my life

On the way home from Milwaukee, I found a curiosity of my life. We all sit in our homes, and look out our windows.  Some of us have striking views of sunrises, sunsets, of going to sleep watching planes line up as they come in to land in paradise.  (OK that is me) Some of us sit on oceans, or views of mountains, or maybe the view of their neighbor’s window and listening to sirens in a busy city.   But, wherever or whatever we call this place home and if we are lucky it is a shelter from the cold, rain or heat.  If we are lucky our home is an oasis from the world of chaos around us. I keep thinking after this week of another way of looking at home.  It is also where we build barriers and walls to the outside and frankly build what can no otherwise be said are walls without windows to look out and observe.  Our homes become more of where we build our lives and choices high up on a pedestal.  It also allows us to look down around us, and if I dare say, look down on people around us wh

HELP! I want to Walk away from Facebook!

Yes, I said it.  I don't think I can, but gosh darn it I really really want to. Here are my reasons to kick the habit: 1) The recent idea they want to listen into the microphone on my phone to see what I am doing while I am using their services is down right disgusting, and more than the big brother of anyone should do.  (I don't need anyone to know how often I listen to Barbra Streisand, watch a cheers episode, or frankly this diet gives me a little more flatulence than normal.). 2) They also are in beta to determine who around me is closest to me (geographically :) at any moment.  Sorry, I don't think that is interesting to me.  I turned off the Apple Find Friends, cause I don't want to be found that often and frankly I don't need or want to have to turn that off.  If you are visiting near me and want to see me this is easy call, text, email or even a billboard well placed will suffice.  If you are near me and want to not see me, you are going to be s

Pet Peeves Friday

Pet Peeves Friday: 1) When you are at a signal, to turn left, and the light changes.  The person in front of you allows huge space to grow between them and the car in front of them as they turn left to assure that people behind them might miss the light. 2) While we are on the subject, when did it become unfashionable to signal.  We have some odd intersections here where the go straight and turn left are the same lane and people don't seem to think turning on their signal is a good idea.  Or worse, make it more fun turn that signal on as you are turning! 3) Which leads to the obvious pet peeve, the reason they didn't signal is they are on their cell phone.  You know the type, it is obviously on speaker cause their lips are just about touching the bottom of the phone.  Which happens to be their left hand that would have taken the time to hit the switch for the turn signal.  They tend to be driving terribly slow and annoying. 4) People who get in line at Starbuck

What Happens in a Moment?

Image
What happens in a moment? The Rains Come from the beach. The water hits my pane of glass, and I wake up from a sound sleep in peace. The idea of dinner, and cooking and friends. The sunshine returns with a calmness on the narrow Middle River once again. Coffee and an awakened sense of being. Calm from a peace and a realization of contentment. The sun rising over the horizon on the beach. The sun setting over the Gulf. A dream, of new places and friends A death, of notoriety of fame. A life, human, a birth of a new special human. A mystery, that every life possesses. A moment, a breath that brings in an awareness A moment, that brings a tear to my eyes. A moment, to recognize love and its gifts A moment, to be grateful for being human. Now a moment is a memory to be savored.

Mr. Putin: Happy Memorial Day!

Mr. Putin:  Happy Memorial Day! On this Memorial Day, in Fort Lauderdale, this Gay, Jewish, American thanks all of those who have put a uniform on to defend our country and even more to those whose lives were sacrificed for this luxury of being able to call America my home.  From global wars to keep a free world of independent countries, to wars in our county to free slaves and change our country for the better.  For those, that have left the secure soil of north America to venture around the globe to fight and help other countries at times over concerns for their freedom as well as our own, I thank them. "All Men are Created Equal" Our Memorial Day is unique, it is to celebrate the sacrifice people have made for the survival of this country.  The defense of something you may not be able to imagine in Russia.  A country that was founded on a unique principle, that all men are created equal and that religion should not be the basis of the rule of law of the cou

MotoX Coffee Break

I sat early at Starbucks on a breezy Friday morning.   I was up at 5am today and instead if rolling over I rolled out of bed and started my day.  Great walk on the beach but wasn't in the picture taking mood this morning.   I know it has been a while since I wrote and partly cause I keep thinking something interesting will happen or inspire me. So in the interest of being out there and keeping my time here on this blog moving forward I am going to share some observations, comments and thoughts about my new MotoX phone.  Yes Luke a walk on the dark side:  I did it. I bought a Motox phone to replace my iPhone 5.  I received an email offer to buy it and not as an upgrade.  The offer came directly from Motorola and was attractively priced. I have been an iPhone customer since the second generation and I enjoyed it mostly.   Although recently it felt more like a cult than an innovative choice.  I am sure the 6 will come out on schedule and since I have an upgrade still comi

Throw Forward Thursdays

I have been accused of late, that my blog has become introspective. Yes, there are times in my life that I look inside for a moment or two of looking at my life and the future.   Should I consider a new career?  Should I be thinking about where I live?  What would life be like if after 30 years I moved back to Savannah?  What is it really like to work at Starbucks? These are things and actions I think about, not as much because I like looking backwards but frankly because they build the building blocks in my mind for the future.  So, I sit here and yes I contemplate and analyze my life at times a little too much but more because I am looking forward than backwards. Yes, I know it is throwback Thursdays and time to post that quirky picture of my childhood or of a moment that happened before today and they are all quite cute and funny from others.  But, I don't want to throwback to another day before today. See, I actually don't do well looking back other than to try and
